Once our teacher, Mr. Kunkle, handed out our next book to read I immediatly opened it and started looking through it. My first thoughts were, "why are we reading a graphic novel?" I felt like a little kid again by reading a comic like book. I was never interested in comics so I judged this book right from the get go. Once I started reading, I noticed that the book was taking place in a different place that I didnt know too much about. I figured I would learn a lot of things from this book. I actually have learned a ton about this book already and im only on page 135. It is crazy how people have to live everyday hoping they dont get bombed. They cant wear what they want and they are told how to live. This book makes me feel good about my life because I dont have to duck for cover everyday hoping a bomb wont explode my house.
I really like the main character and how she is telling her story. It shows you how she grew up and how vividly her memory from this time in her life was. She grows up very fast and does things that dont really make her a grown up but she thinks it does.
I like how you can see the pictures because it really gives you a picture in your head and sometimes no words are necessary. I like this style a lot because it is something different and is fun. You can actually see what the character is thinking and doing at all times without any description.

I too was fascinated by how educational this book was. I can't imagine what it would be like to live there during that time, or even now.
ReplyDeleteI guess we can be thankful that we were born into a country where people have more freedom.
