Caucasia

Caucasia is an interesting book in my eyes. I cant figure out whether I like it or not because their are so many parts I hate but I cant stop reading. I kind of see this book like McFarland because we are a segregated school in some ways. This book made me see the other side of things and that everybody goes through things, no matter what color. I have known that for quite some time, but I never really understood how people treated eachother and how badly just a skin color can change someones life so much.

I love the sisters relationship in this book, it is a friendship that no friend can have because your sister will ALWAYS be there.

go gag yourself

Before this video I was one of those people that looked at ads in magazines and commercials and wished I could look like that. I was one of those girls that got dragged in the black hole of looking perfect when in reality, food is essential to live. I’m sure I am not the only girl that has got sucked in and wanted to change herself. Looking at those ads should make you feel better about yourself though, because I’m sure those girls don’t eat or gag themselves to look like that.

I completely agree with Kilbourne and her views on ads and the sexual pictures to go along with them. Is it really necessary to have a naked guy in an ad for JEANS! I don’t think so, maybe he should try wearing the jeans to show them off? I agree that ads are a huge way to introduce people with a product, but there is no need for the sexual content too. Most people don’t enjoy watching naked girls and guys when they are just trying to watch some TV on a Sunday night. It’s like I am watching my favorite show and BAM! A NAKED GIRL THAT IS STCIK THIN. GROSS.

After watching this video, I have realized that I like myself for me, I don’t want to look so skinny you can see my ribs. I don’t want to have to be naked for attention and to get something sold; I think that’s non sense.

I think of myself as a customer, not because of the commercial ad I saw, but because I like the product. I’m sure having a pretty girl showing off this item would work a lot better, but she doesn’t need to be naked and have her ribs sticking out. I think there are plenty of pretty girls out there that don’t have to have an eating disorder that could sell the product just as well.

I like the commercial about the special K the best because it shows how different men and woman are. I thought it was a funny yet an ad that told the truth. The ad about the different way breasts can be, and then the commercial is about your hair doesn’t make sense to me. I just think to myself, "WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT"

In the end, girls are desperate for attention and advertisement companies are willing to give them that, and I don’t think this will change anytime soon. What needs to change is the way people take these ads.

A Northern Light

For my Choice novel I picked to read A Northern Light. I picked this because I heard from many people that it was a very good book so I took their word for it. It took a long time to get into it and want to read it. As I got further along I started to really like it.

Its about this girl Mattie that lives on her farm with her 3 sisters and 1 brother. Their mother died and thier father is crabby 24/7. Her dad needs her to work around the farm and doesnt want her to go work or continue schooling.

She works at the Glenmore hotel and a body washes up on the lake. Just before that Emily, the girl that died, instructed Mattie to burn all the letters she wrote. Mattie decided to hold off on it and she read them.

If it sounds interesting...READ IT!

WERE READING A GRAPHIC NOVEL? UGHHH

Once our teacher, Mr. Kunkle, handed out our next book to read I immediatly opened it and started looking through it. My first thoughts were, "why are we reading a graphic novel?" I felt like a little kid again by reading a comic like book. I was never interested in comics so I judged this book right from the get go. Once I started reading, I noticed that the book was taking place in a different place that I didnt know too much about. I figured I would learn a lot of things from this book. I actually have learned a ton about this book already and im only on page 135. It is crazy how people have to live everyday hoping they dont get bombed. They cant wear what they want and they are told how to live. This book makes me feel good about my life because I dont have to duck for cover everyday hoping a bomb wont explode my house.

I really like the main character and how she is telling her story. It shows you how she grew up and how vividly her memory from this time in her life was. She grows up very fast and does things that dont really make her a grown up but she thinks it does.

I like how you can see the pictures because it really gives you a picture in your head and sometimes no words are necessary. I like this style a lot because it is something different and is fun. You can actually see what the character is thinking and doing at all times without any description.

Criminal Minds

So i was watching an episode called the last word on criminal crimes. This episode was about 2 serial killers who are terrorizing the same town. They are competing to do the better crime and get more people. They reference catcher in the rye in the news paper when the 2 killers are talking to eachother with the names Sunny and Holden. It totally made sense to me because it all fits in with the book.

Holden's experience with Sunny and Maurice

Holden was on his way up to his room in the elevator until Maurice asked him if he wanted to throw. He says yes agreeing to the 5 dollar throw. He goes to his room, brushes his teeth, and tries to look nice. Once the girl arrives, Holden trips over the bag and embaresses himself right away. What a good first impression right! Well then she comes in and takes off her coat. She is wearing a green dress that is revealing herself. Of course Holden is liking it, but he is too chicken to do anything about this prostitute in his room. So they just talk, and then he gives her five dollars but thats not good enough according to her. She wants ten dollars!

I think this follows the motif about him lying and talking about sex a lot. He is a virgin so why is he saying he always needs to get some? \Depression was another motif that it follows because he is so depressed in this whole book, but after this scene, he is even MORE depressed. Maybe he should do something with his life so he isn't so depressed? Just my opionion. After the scene, I was still confused about why he kept beating Holden up once Sunny grabbed 5 dollars already.

This scene really changed the book because you find out Holden is just a fake when he talks about girls ALL THE TIME! He has never had sex, im not judging him or anything, but he doesn't need to act like he has.

Seriously

Ok, so Holden needs to get a life! He is kicked out of way too many school to count and does too many random things that I dont care to read.
Seriously!

What is going on in that head of his? He is probably just thinking about the next lie he is going to tell, or think about how much he wants a drink.
Seriously?

Holden is obsessed with this girl Jane but doesn't even talk to her. He hasn't seen her in years, but thats all he can think about!
Seriously?

And thats another topic. GIRLS! He always thinks nasty creepy things about girls but is too scared to do anything. He always tries too hard to buy them drinks even though not every girl is into drop out alcoholics. GROW UP.
Seriously!

...and stop being so depressed. You screwed up your own life, nobody else did. So maybe instead of roaming the streets until day time and smoking every second you could be trying to do something with your life.
SERIOUSLY!

ALL TALK, no actions

So since ive been reading this book, I feel like he is all talk no action. He says a lot of things but NEVER follows through. For example, he acts all tough and stuff, but he will not fight a guy for anything or confront him. Like about the gloves, he says he would rather slit his throat or something than punch him. He also gets into a fight and lets Strandlater win when he thinks he is so tough. Or how he talks about girls all the time and always talks about having sex, but he is still a virgin. And when the prostitute comes in he just talks. I feel like he can never go through with anything because he is too scared of the results.

About me

Hi, Im Alysha Nelson and I am 18 years old! :)Some of my hobbies are dancing, tanning, and of course like every other girl, shopping! I am a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Heritage. I am a very happy person and love to laugh but better yet, I love to make people laugh. Listing to music on the boat is my all time favorite thing to do!

well, my favortie book is the pact. It keeps me reading because I need to know what is going to happen at the end of the book. It teaches people that killing yourself affects others lifes a lot and its a selfish thing to do.
