Caucasia

Caucasia is an interesting book in my eyes. I cant figure out whether I like it or not because their are so many parts I hate but I cant stop reading. I kind of see this book like McFarland because we are a segregated school in some ways. This book made me see the other side of things and that everybody goes through things, no matter what color. I have known that for quite some time, but I never really understood how people treated eachother and how badly just a skin color can change someones life so much.

I love the sisters relationship in this book, it is a friendship that no friend can have because your sister will ALWAYS be there.

go gag yourself

Before this video I was one of those people that looked at ads in magazines and commercials and wished I could look like that. I was one of those girls that got dragged in the black hole of looking perfect when in reality, food is essential to live. I’m sure I am not the only girl that has got sucked in and wanted to change herself. Looking at those ads should make you feel better about yourself though, because I’m sure those girls don’t eat or gag themselves to look like that.

I completely agree with Kilbourne and her views on ads and the sexual pictures to go along with them. Is it really necessary to have a naked guy in an ad for JEANS! I don’t think so, maybe he should try wearing the jeans to show them off? I agree that ads are a huge way to introduce people with a product, but there is no need for the sexual content too. Most people don’t enjoy watching naked girls and guys when they are just trying to watch some TV on a Sunday night. It’s like I am watching my favorite show and BAM! A NAKED GIRL THAT IS STCIK THIN. GROSS.

After watching this video, I have realized that I like myself for me, I don’t want to look so skinny you can see my ribs. I don’t want to have to be naked for attention and to get something sold; I think that’s non sense.

I think of myself as a customer, not because of the commercial ad I saw, but because I like the product. I’m sure having a pretty girl showing off this item would work a lot better, but she doesn’t need to be naked and have her ribs sticking out. I think there are plenty of pretty girls out there that don’t have to have an eating disorder that could sell the product just as well.

I like the commercial about the special K the best because it shows how different men and woman are. I thought it was a funny yet an ad that told the truth. The ad about the different way breasts can be, and then the commercial is about your hair doesn’t make sense to me. I just think to myself, "WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT"

In the end, girls are desperate for attention and advertisement companies are willing to give them that, and I don’t think this will change anytime soon. What needs to change is the way people take these ads.

A Northern Light

For my Choice novel I picked to read A Northern Light. I picked this because I heard from many people that it was a very good book so I took their word for it. It took a long time to get into it and want to read it. As I got further along I started to really like it.

Its about this girl Mattie that lives on her farm with her 3 sisters and 1 brother. Their mother died and thier father is crabby 24/7. Her dad needs her to work around the farm and doesnt want her to go work or continue schooling.

She works at the Glenmore hotel and a body washes up on the lake. Just before that Emily, the girl that died, instructed Mattie to burn all the letters she wrote. Mattie decided to hold off on it and she read them.

If it sounds interesting...READ IT!
